Whether the three bears – Apple, Linux and EU/US regulators – will wade in to spoil the party remains to be seen. But Microsoft really does need to dish up an operating system that is “just right” this time.
A US Federal court gave open source movement a significant victory . In the ruling court said just because a software programmer gave away his work did not mean that it could not be protected.
The ruling also has implications on creative commons license. The court ruled that The Artistic License grants users the right to copy, modify, and distribute the software but with conditions ( and not just covenants) . earlier a lower court had ruled that the terms of the open-source contract were overly broad.
